The Southern Colorado Basketball League is a “Team” oriented league. All entries are for teams that already exist.  This entails having a coach and at least eight players. However, we do understand and appreciate the fact that there are individuals who, for whatever reason, don’t have an existing team. Although we do exist for teams, we do want to help individuals become part of a team that can then join SoCo.

So, how do you become part of a team?  Where do you start?  Any tips?

Since SoCo began, we have been answering these questions.  We exist for the love of the game, and to foster more quality basketball in the Pikes Peak region. We understand it can be frustrating being new to the area, not knowing many people, having a son/daughter with no affiliation etc…

Here are some starting guidelines that may help:

1. Always keep in mind that it is best to find players of the same grade level, same school, that are from the same geographical area. This is important for many reasons.
2. We suggest having your son/daughter talk to friends at school, church, or from the same area with hopes of generating interest to form a team.
3. Join a YMCA team with the hopes of continuing on to play more competitively at the conclusion.  The YMCA places individuals on teams.  We have had many teams from the YMCA regroup and continue on.
4. Athletes may want to ask their school coaches or PE teachers for assistance in finding a team.  These people may already know of a team or may have heard that a team is forming.
5. Start a team yourself!  Dozens and dozens of teams have started with ONE motivated parent or coach, a little bit of drive, some “stick-to-itiveness”, and networking. Some of our greatest success stories have had these roots.
6. SoCo now has a message board on our website.  At this site you sign in and have a password (for the protection of the site, and all users) and may possibly get picked up by a team.  Teams and individuals can post their requests on this message board.  By visiting www.socobball.com you can begin using the message board as an additional aid in finding a team.

Thanks you for your interest in SoCo, we hope this information is helpful.
